7/3/2023 0 Comments The new york trilogy author![]() ![]() ![]() I guess that every reader reads his or her own meaning in the stories, but to me they are mostly about loneliness and about disappearing into yourself. What these stories are really about is something entirely else. Actually they are not detective stories at all – calling them detective stories is like calling Caviar "Fish Eggs", it may be true, but it doesn't tell the real story. The NY trilogy consists of three stories City of Glass, Ghosts and The Locked Room – all of them are, on their very surface detective stories, but if you scratch just a tiny bit further, than the surface you will find something entirely different. And then joy, joy, joy, my brother brought me this book and Mr. I saw him on TV a few months ago, he read from this book and I was deeply fascinated – the way the words flowed and the richness of his voice, gripped me deeply. This is the first book that I've read by Poul Auster. The New York Trilogy is a collection of 3 stories by Paul Auster. ![]()

Although it was not Maas' first fantasy series, I recommend starting with 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' To help out my fellow BookTookers, I created a definitive reading order for her books that I think will offer the best Maas experience. With the release of her most recent book, "House of Sky and Breath," Maas revealed she was creating an interconnected literary universe with her separate series, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.īut because her literary work is so expansive, it can be unclear where to begin if you want to enter Maas' fictional world. Love the characters and the steam and all the plots of the book have been very different but still fit together well. This is the fourth book in the series, but you can read them in any order. In chapter 46 there is an exchange between Odd and a bad guy that is roll on the ground funny, but this is about the only place in the book where there is any levity. It seemed very out of character for Odd to use a gun and I believe it was just a easy way for Koontz to get his character out of trouble, so he compromised the character's character. ![]() At one point he bravely stands still while a bad guy takes three shots at him, like he is superman. Toward the end our gun hating hero, uses a gun and kills several people, some point blank. It takes him eight chapters to get off the beach. The story starts off on a beach where Odd is attack by some bad guys. ![]() Odd mentions more then once that he would like to die and I believe Koontz would like to kill him off, if only he did not sell so well. I believe Koontz is getting tired of this character and it shows in his writing. Any book by Koontz sells well and any book with Odd as the main character sells well, but Koontz may have shot himself in the foot with this half a** attempt. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Cracking India by Bapsi Sidhwa![]() ![]() ![]() Just as Netsai’s amputated leg surfaces compulsively throughout The Book of Not as a signifier of the trauma of chimurenga, Cracking India’s Partition narrative is haunted by recurring images of corporeal dismemberment - tearing, cracking, bleeding, pain - that emerge from the protagonist Lenny’s childhood experiences of disability (she is lame as a result of polio). Echoing a problematic conflation of individual and national bodies that was apparent in nationalist discourses in this period, the text performs a discomfiting oscillation between materialist constructions of disability as a social presence and the deployment of disability as a prosthesis standing in for colonial disablement and the mutilated - partitioned - body politic. Of all the texts analysed in this book, Bapsi Sidhwa’s Cracking India (1991), 1 a child-narrated account of the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan, offers the most conflicted negotiation between material and metaphorical modes of representation. ![]() |
